In 1841 census for Enford is living with John & Susannah Biffin with Elizabeth living with his previous wife's family and her name was Grace Biffin. 1851 census age 46 Enford with wife Elizabeth and 5 children and Susannah Biffin lodger age 77 (his mother in law).
Died age 74.

Could be the son of Jane [586MER006] there is a bastardy case 1813 for her but doesn't name the children.
Note from Stan Merridew April 2012 :-
The ancestry of James Merridew remains a mystery. I have checked all the adjacent parishes to Enford, the parish of his birth according to the census and further afield. On his marriage to Elizabeth Perritt 1840 his father's name is shown as “unknown.”
I think it is highly pprobable that he is the illegitimate son of one of Nehemiah Merridew's daughters. Nehemiah possibly married three times, Mary Offer 24 Feb 1765, Mary Eyres 22 Dec 1777 both Enford & Ann Neal of Bulford banns 1775. He had six daughters, Mary 1766 Rebecca 1771, Jane 1779, Frances 1783, Sarah 1787, Elizabeth 1790 and two sons with his wife Mary. Three appear in the poor records but none of the births appear to tie up with James probable birth c1805-7.
Nehemiah was the son of Thomas & Elizabeth bap 13 Dec 1745 at Winterbourne Stoke. There is a marriage of Thomas Merridew & Elizabeth Holmes at Figheldean 9 Dec 1735 which ties in and a further marriage 18 Nov 1771 at Figheldean of a Thomas (widower) to Sarah Strong.
Thos & Eliz produced the following children baptised at Winterbourne Stoke:

William (bap 1739) it appears remained in Winterbourne Stoke and produced several children with Mary nee Ginger marr 24 Dec 1764 (until her death 1782) and Elizabeth nee Axford marr 6 Sept 1783. Both marriages at Winterbourne Stoke.
